Fixes an issue that caused Windows to fail when removing extension's
directories, as Zed had never stop any related processes.
Now:
* Zed shuts down and waits until the end when the language servers are
shut down
* Adds `impl Drop for WasmExtension` where does
`self.tx.close_channel();` to stop a receiver loop that holds the "lock"
on the extension's work dir.
The extension was dropped, but the channel was not closed for some
reason.
* Does more unregistration to ensure `Arc<WasmExtension>` with the `tx`
does not leak further
* Tidies up the related errors which had never reported a problematic
path before

This adds a "workspace-hack" crate, see
[mozilla's](https://hg.mozilla.org/mozilla-central/file/3a265fdc9f33e5946f0ca0a04af73acd7e6d1a39/build/workspace-hack/Cargo.toml#l7)
for a concise explanation of why this is useful. For us in practice this
means that if I were to run all the tests (`cargo nextest r
--workspace`) and then `cargo r`, all the deps from the previous cargo
command will be reused. Before this PR it would rebuild many deps due to
resolving different sets of features for them. For me this frequently
caused long rebuilds when things "should" already be cached.
To avoid manually maintaining our workspace-hack crate, we will use
[cargo hakari](https://docs.rs/cargo-hakari) to update the build files
when there's a necessary change. I've added a step to CI that checks
whether the workspace-hack crate is up to date, and instructs you to
re-run `script/update-workspace-hack` when it fails.
Finally, to make sure that people can still depend on crates in our
workspace without pulling in all the workspace deps, we use a `[patch]`
section following [hakari's
instructions](https://docs.rs/cargo-hakari/0.9.36/cargo_hakari/patch_directive/index.html)
One possible followup task would be making guppy use our
`rust-toolchain.toml` instead of having to duplicate that list in its
config, I opened an issue for that upstream: guppy-rs/guppy#481.
TODO:
- [x] Fix the extension test failure
- [x] Ensure the dev dependencies aren't being unified by Hakari into
the main dependencies
- [x] Ensure that the remote-server binary continues to not depend on

This PR makes progress on #7711 by identifying any common prefix of the
paths in the file finder's search results, and replacing the "interior"
of that prefix---every path segment but the first and last---with `...`,
when a heuristic indicates that the longest path would otherwise
overflow the modal.
The elision is not applied to any segment that contains a match for the
search query.
There may be more work to do on #7711 in the case of long result paths
that do not share a significant common prefix.

There's still a bit more work to do on this, but this PR is compiling
(with warnings) after eliminating the key types. When the tasks below
are complete, this will be the new narrative for GPUI:
- `Entity<T>` - This replaces `View<T>`/`Model<T>`. It represents a unit
of state, and if `T` implements `Render`, then `Entity<T>` implements
`Element`.
- `&mut App` This replaces `AppContext` and represents the app.
- `&mut Context<T>` This replaces `ModelContext` and derefs to `App`. It
is provided by the framework when updating an entity.
- `&mut Window` Broken out of `&mut WindowContext` which no longer
exists. Every method that once took `&mut WindowContext` now takes `&mut
Window, &mut App` and every method that took `&mut ViewContext<T>` now
takes `&mut Window, &mut Context<T>`
Not pictured here are the two other failed attempts. It's been quite a
month!
Tasks:
- [x] Remove `View`, `ViewContext`, `WindowContext` and thread through
`Window`
- [x] [@cole-miller @mikayla-maki] Redraw window when entities change
- [x] [@cole-miller @mikayla-maki] Get examples and Zed running
- [x] [@cole-miller @mikayla-maki] Fix Zed rendering
- [x] [@mikayla-maki] Fix todo! macros and comments
- [x] Fix a bug where the editor would not be redrawn because of view
caching
- [x] remove publicness window.notify() and replace with
`AppContext::notify`
- [x] remove `observe_new_window_models`, replace with
`observe_new_models` with an optional window
- [x] Fix a bug where the project panel would not be redrawn because of
the wrong refresh() call being used
- [x] Fix the tests
- [x] Fix warnings by eliminating `Window` params or using `_`
- [x] Fix conflicts
- [x] Simplify generic code where possible
- [x] Rename types
- [ ] Update docs

This PR adds a new `assistant_context_editor` crate.
This will ultimately house the `ContextEditor` so that it can be
consumed by both `assistant` and `assistant2`.
For the purposes of this PR, we just introduce the crate and move some
supporting constructs to it, such as the `ContextStore`.

`@mention`ed files in assistant2 now get replaced by the full path of
the file in what gets sent to the model, while rendering visually as
just the filename (in a crease, so they can only be selected/deleted as
a whole unit, not character by character).

This PR overhauls extension registration in order to make it more
modular.
The `extension` crate now contains an `ExtensionHostProxy` that can be
used to register various proxies that the extension host can use to
interact with the rest of the system.
There are now a number of different proxy traits representing the
various pieces of functionality that can be provided by an extension.
The respective crates that provide this functionality can implement
their corresponding proxy trait in order to register a proxy that the
extension host will use to register the bits of functionality provided
by the extension.

This PR updates the `SlashCommand` trait to use a streaming return type.
This change is just at the trait layer. The goal here is to decouple
changing the trait's API while preserving behavior on either side.
The `SlashCommandOutput` type now has two methods for converting two and
from a stream to use in cases where we're not yet doing streaming.
On the `SlashCommand` implementer side, the implements can call
`to_event_stream` to produce a stream of events based off the
`SlashCommandOutput`.
On the slash command consumer side we use
`SlashCommandOutput::from_event_stream` to convert a stream of events
back into a `SlashCommandOutput`.
The `/file` slash command has been updated to emit `SlashCommandEvent`s
directly in order for it to work properly.

This commit proposes the addition of "context serveres" and the
underlying protocol (model context protocol). Context servers allow
simple definition of slash commands in another language and running
local on the user machines. This aims to quickly prototype new commands,
and provide a way to add personal (or company wide) customizations to
the assistant panel, without having to maintain an extension. We can
use this to reuse our existing codebase, with authenticators, etc and
easily have it provide context into the assistant panel.
As such it occupies a different design space as extensions, which I
think are
more aimed towards long-term, well maintained pieces of code that can be
easily distributed.
It's implemented as a central crate for easy reusability across the
codebase
and to easily hook into the assistant panel at all points.
Design wise there are a few pieces:
1. client.rs: A simple JSON-RPC client talking over stdio to a spawned
server. This is
very close to how LSP work and likely there could be a combined client
down the line.
2. types.rs: Serialization and deserialization client for the underlying
model context protocol.
3. protocol.rs: Handling the session between client and server.
4. manager.rs: Manages settings and adding and deleting servers from a
central pool.
A server can be defined in the settings.json as:
```
"context_servers": [
{"id": "test", "executable": "python", "args": ["-m", "context_server"]
]
```
## Quick Example
A quick example of how a theoretical backend site can look like. With
roughly 100 lines
of code (nicely generated by Claude) and a bit of decorator magic (200
lines in total), one
can come up with a framework that makes it as easy as:
```python
@context_server.slash_command(name="rot13", description="Perform a rot13 transformation")
@context_server.argument(name="input", type=str, help="String to rot13")
async def rot13(input: str) -> str:
return ''.join(chr((ord(c) - 97 + 13) % 26 + 97) if c.isalpha() else c for c in echo.lower())
```
to define a new slash_command.
## Todo:
- Allow context servers to be defined in workspace settings.
- Allow passing env variables to context_servers

This PR:
- Makes slash commands easier to compose by adding a concept,
`CompletionIntent`. When using `tab` on a completion in the assistant
panel, that completion item will be expanded but the associated command
will not be run. Using `enter` will still either run the completion item
or continue command composition as before.
- Fixes a bug where running `/diagnostics` on a project with no
diagnostics will delete the entire command, rather than rendering an
empty header.
- Improves the autocomplete rendering for files, showing when
directories are selected and re-arranging the results to have the file
name or trailing directory show first.

This PR makes it so we normalize the line endings for prompts to LFs
(`\n`) when we load a prompt from the library.
In some cases, prompts could end up with CRLF (`\r\n`) line endings.
When these prompts were used with the `/prompt` slash command and
summarily run, the prompt text would be converted into a rope, causing
the line endings to be normalized to LFs.
However, this would happen _after_ the ranges for the
`SlashCommandOutputSection`s were computed based on the text that still
contained the CRLFs. This would then cause these ranges to be invalid
for the text with the normalized endings, resulting in a panic when
converting them to anchors.

them for now. Shared contexts can be accessed via the `History` tab in

This PR improves the completions for arguments in the `/docs` slash
command.
We achieved this by extending the `complete_argument` method on the
`SlashCommand` trait to return a `Vec<ArgumentCompletion>` instead of a
`Vec<String>`.
In addition to the completion `label`, `ArgumentCompletion` has two new
fields that are can be used to customize the completion behavior:
- `new_text`: The actual text that will be inserted when the completion
is accepted, which may be different from what is shown by the completion
label.
- `run_command`: Whether the command is run when the completion is
accepted. This can be set to `false` to allow accepting a completion
without running the command.

This PR adds initial support for defining slash commands for the
Assistant from extensions.
Slash commands are defined in an extension's `extension.toml`:
```toml
[slash_commands.gleam-project]
description = "Returns information about the current Gleam project."
requires_argument = false
```
and then executed via the `run_slash_command` method on the `Extension`
trait:
```rs
impl Extension for GleamExtension {
// ...
fn run_slash_command(
&self,
command: SlashCommand,
_argument: Option<String>,
worktree: &zed::Worktree,
) -> Result<Option<String>, String> {
match command.name.as_str() {
"gleam-project" => Ok(Some("Yayyy".to_string())),
command => Err(format!("unknown slash command: \"{command}\"")),
}
}
}
