lsp: Implement support for the textDocument/diagnostic command (#19230)
Closes [#13107](https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/issues/13107)

Enabled pull diagnostics by default, for the language servers that
declare support in the corresponding capabilities.

```
"diagnostics": {
    "lsp_pull_diagnostics_debounce_ms": null
}
```
settings can be used to disable the pulling.

Release Notes:

- Added support for the LSP `textDocument/diagnostic` command.

# Brief

This is draft PR that implements the LSP `textDocument/diagnostic`
command. The goal is to receive your feedback and establish further
steps towards fully implementing this command. I tried to re-use
existing method and structures to ensure:

1. The existing functionality works as before
2. There is no interference between the diagnostics sent by a server and
the diagnostics requested by a client.

The current implementation is done via a new LSP command
`GetDocumentDiagnostics` that is sent when a buffer is saved and when a
buffer is edited. There is a new method called `pull_diagnostic` that is
called for such events. It has debounce to ensure we don't spam a server
with commands every time the buffer is edited. Probably, we don't need
the debounce when the buffer is saved.

All in all, the goal is basically to get your feedback and ensure I am
on the right track. Thanks!

## In action

You can clone any Ruby repo since the `ruby-lsp` supports the pull
diagnostics only.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Clone this repo https://github.com/vitallium/stimulus-lsp-error-zed
2. Install Ruby (via `asdf` or `mise).
4. Install Ruby gems via `bundle install`
5. Install Ruby LSP with `gem install ruby-lsp`
6. Check out this PR and build Zed
7. Open any file and start editing to see diagnostics in realtime.

Change default formatter settings for LaTeX (#28727)
Closes: https://github.com/rzukic/zed-latex/issues/77

## Default formatter: `latexindent`
Before, formatting was delegated to the language server, which just ran
a `latexindent` executable. There was no benefit to running it through
the language server over running it as an "external" formatter in zed.
In fact this was an issue because there was no way to provide an
explicit path for the executable (causing above extension issue). Having
the default settings configure the formatter directly gives more control
to user and removes the number of indirections making it clearer how to
tweak things like the executable path, or extra CLI args, etc...

## Alternative: `prettier`
Default settings have also been added to allow prettier as the formatter
(by just setting `"formatter": "prettier"` in the "LaTeX" language
settings). This was not possible before because an extra line needed to
be added to the `prettier` crate (similarly to what was done for
https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/issues/19024) to find the plugin
correctly.
> [!NOTE]
> The `prettier-plugin-latex` node module also contained a
`dist/standalone.js` but using that instead of
`dist/prettier-plugin-latex.js` gave an error, and indeed the latter
worked as intended (along with its questionable choices for formatting).

Release Notes:

- LaTeX: added default `latexindent` formatter settings without relying
on `texlab`, as well as allowing `prettier` to be chosen for formatting

Use anyhow more idiomatically (#31052)
https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/issues/30972 brought up another
case where our context is not enough to track the actual source of the
issue: we get a general top-level error without inner error.

The reason for this was `.ok_or_else(|| anyhow!("failed to read HEAD
SHA"))?; ` on the top level.

The PR finally reworks the way we use anyhow to reduce such issues (or
at least make it simpler to bubble them up later in a fix).
On top of that, uses a few more anyhow methods for better readability.

* `.ok_or_else(|| anyhow!("..."))`, `map_err` and other similar error
conversion/option reporting cases are replaced with `context` and
`with_context` calls
* in addition to that, various `anyhow!("failed to do ...")` are
stripped with `.context("Doing ...")` messages instead to remove the
parasitic `failed to` text
* `anyhow::ensure!` is used instead of `if ... { return Err(...); }`
calls
* `anyhow::bail!` is used instead of `return Err(anyhow!(...));`

Add workspace-hack (#27277)
This adds a "workspace-hack" crate, see
[mozilla's](https://hg.mozilla.org/mozilla-central/file/3a265fdc9f33e5946f0ca0a04af73acd7e6d1a39/build/workspace-hack/Cargo.toml#l7)
for a concise explanation of why this is useful. For us in practice this
means that if I were to run all the tests (`cargo nextest r
--workspace`) and then `cargo r`, all the deps from the previous cargo
command will be reused. Before this PR it would rebuild many deps due to
resolving different sets of features for them. For me this frequently
caused long rebuilds when things "should" already be cached.

To avoid manually maintaining our workspace-hack crate, we will use
[cargo hakari](https://docs.rs/cargo-hakari) to update the build files
when there's a necessary change. I've added a step to CI that checks
whether the workspace-hack crate is up to date, and instructs you to
re-run `script/update-workspace-hack` when it fails.

Finally, to make sure that people can still depend on crates in our
workspace without pulling in all the workspace deps, we use a `[patch]`
section following [hakari's
instructions](https://docs.rs/cargo-hakari/0.9.36/cargo_hakari/patch_directive/index.html)

One possible followup task would be making guppy use our
`rust-toolchain.toml` instead of having to duplicate that list in its
config, I opened an issue for that upstream: guppy-rs/guppy#481.

TODO:
- [x] Fix the extension test failure
- [x] Ensure the dev dependencies aren't being unified by Hakari into
the main dependencies
- [x] Ensure that the remote-server binary continues to not depend on
LibSSL

Eliminate GPUI View, ViewContext, and WindowContext types (#22632)
There's still a bit more work to do on this, but this PR is compiling
(with warnings) after eliminating the key types. When the tasks below
are complete, this will be the new narrative for GPUI:

- `Entity<T>` - This replaces `View<T>`/`Model<T>`. It represents a unit
of state, and if `T` implements `Render`, then `Entity<T>` implements
`Element`.
- `&mut App` This replaces `AppContext` and represents the app.
- `&mut Context<T>` This replaces `ModelContext` and derefs to `App`. It
is provided by the framework when updating an entity.
- `&mut Window` Broken out of `&mut WindowContext` which no longer
exists. Every method that once took `&mut WindowContext` now takes `&mut
Window, &mut App` and every method that took `&mut ViewContext<T>` now
takes `&mut Window, &mut Context<T>`

Not pictured here are the two other failed attempts. It's been quite a
month!

Tasks:

- [x] Remove `View`, `ViewContext`, `WindowContext` and thread through
`Window`
- [x] [@cole-miller @mikayla-maki] Redraw window when entities change
- [x] [@cole-miller @mikayla-maki] Get examples and Zed running
- [x] [@cole-miller @mikayla-maki] Fix Zed rendering
- [x] [@mikayla-maki] Fix todo! macros and comments
- [x] Fix a bug where the editor would not be redrawn because of view

- [x] remove publicness window.notify() and replace with

- [x] remove `observe_new_window_models`, replace with
`observe_new_models` with an optional window
- [x] Fix a bug where the project panel would not be redrawn because of
the wrong refresh() call being used
- [x] Fix the tests
- [x] Fix warnings by eliminating `Window` params or using `_`
- [x] Fix conflicts
- [x] Simplify generic code where possible
- [x] Rename types
- [ ] Update docs

project: Allow running multiple instances of a single language server within a single worktree (#23473)
This PR introduces a new entity called Project Tree which is responsible
for finding subprojects within a worktree;
a subproject is a language-specific subset of a worktree which should be
accurately tracked on the language server side. We'll have an ability to
set multiple disjoint workspaceFolders on language server side OR spawn
multiple instances of a single language server (which will be the case
with e.g. Python language servers, as they need to interact with
multiple disjoint virtual environments).
Project Tree assumes that projects of the same LspAdapter kind cannot
overlap. Additionally project nesting is not allowed within the scope of
a single LspAdapter.

Add .prettierignore support (#21297)
Closes #11115

**Context**:

Consider a monorepo setup like this: the root has Prettier installed,
but the individual monorepos do not. In this case, only one Prettier
instance is used, with its installation located at the root. The
monorepos also use this same instance for formatting.

However, monorepo can have its own `.prettierignore` file, which will
take precedence over the `.prettierignore` file at the root level (if
one exists) for files in that monorepo.

<img
src="https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/742f16ac-11ad-4d2f-a5a2-696e47a617b9"
alt="prettier" width="200px" />

**Implementation**:

From the context above, we should keep ignore dir decoupled from the
Prettier instance. This means that even if the project has only one
Prettier installation (and thus a single Prettier instance), there can
still be multiple `.prettierignore` in play.

This approach also allows us to respect `.prettierignore` even when the
project does not have Prettier installed locally and instead relies on
the editor’s Prettier instance.

**Tests**:

1. No Prettier in project, using editor Prettier: Ensures
`.prettierignore` is respected even without a local Prettier
installation.
2. Monorepo with root Prettier and child `.prettierignore`: Confirms
that the child project’s ignore file is correctly used.
3. Monorepo with root and child `.prettierignore` files: Verifies the
child ignore file takes precedence over the root’s.

Support .editorconfig (#19455)
Closes https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/issues/8534
Supersedes https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/pull/16349

Potential concerns:
* we do not follow up to the `/` when looking for `.editorconfig`, only
up to the worktree root.
Seems fine for most of the cases, and the rest should be solved
generically later, as the same issue exists for settings.json
* `fn language` in `AllLanguageSettings` is very hot, called very
frequently during rendering. We accumulate and parse all `.editorconfig`
file contents beforehand, but have to go over globs and match these
against the path given + merge the properties still.
This does not seem to be very bad, but needs more testing and
potentially some extra caching.

util: Use GlobSet in PathMatcher (#13197)
Previously we were using a single globset::Glob in PathMatcher; higher
up the stack, we were then resorting to using a list of PathMatchers.
globset crate exposes a GlobSet type that's better suited for this use
case. In my benchmarks, using a single PathMatcher with GlobSet instead
of a Vec of PathMatchers with Globs is about 3 times faster with the
default 'file_scan_exclusions' values. This slightly improves our
project load time for projects with large # of files, as showcased in
the following videos of loading a project with 100k source files. This
project is *not* a git repository, so it should measure raw overhead on
our side.

Extract paths out of util (#13182)
This PR extracts the definition of the various Zed paths out of `util`
and into a new `paths` crate.

`util` is for generic utils, while these paths are Zed-specific. For
instance, `gpui` depends on `util`, and it shouldn't have knowledge of
these paths, since they are only used by Zed.

Use language settings' prettier parsers as a fallback for files with no path (#12273)
Follow-up of
https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/pull/12095#issuecomment-2123230762
reverting back part of https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/pull/11558
that was related to `language.toml` parsing.

Now all extensions that define `prettier_parser_name` in their language
configs, will enable formatting untitled buffers without any extra
language settings like

```json
{
  "languages": {
    "JSON": {
      "prettier": {
        "allowed": true,
        "parser": "json"
      }
    }
  }
}
```

Release Notes:

- Improved ergonomics of untitled buffer formatting with prettier, no
extra language settings are needed by default.

Allow formatting of unsaved buffers with prettier (#12095)
This fixes #4529 by allowing unsaved buffers to be formatted with
prettier.

Steps to do that:

1. Create a new buffer
2. Set language for the buffer (e.g.: `language selector: toggle` and
JSON)
3. In settings, set prettier parser for language (can't be inferred,
since we don't have filename) and allow formatting with prettier:

   ```json
   {
     "languages": {
       "JSON": {
         "prettier": {
           "allowed": true,
           "parser": "json"
         }
       }
     }
   }
   ```

4. Use `editor: format`

Release Notes:

- Added ability to format unsaved buffers with Prettier. Requirement is
to set a Prettier parser in the user settings. Example for JSON: `{
"languages": { "JSON": { "prettier": { "allowed": true, "parser": "json"
} } } }` ([#4529](https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/issues/4529)).

Change default Prettier's useTabs settings based on Zed settings (#11958)
Part of https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/issues/7656

When a project is formatted by Prettier that Zed installs, make it
respect Zed's `hard_tabs` settings by passing the value into Prettier
config as `useTabs`.

Autodetect parser name with prettier by default (#11558)
Closes https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/issues/11517

* Removes forced prettier parser name for languages, making `auto`
command to run prettier on every file by default.
* Moves prettier configs away from plugin language declarations into
language settings

Fix prettier-plugin-organize-imports plugin removes used imports (#9598)
### Issue
So this pull request fixes an issue that was driven me crazy. The issue
was that when you use the `prettier-plugin-organize-imports` It would
remove some imports that should not be removed before they were used
inside the module itself.

You can reproduce it with the following `prettierrc.json` config and
source code. When you **save** the file, it would remove the `import
clsx from "clsx";` import from the file.

**Prettier config**
```json
{
  "semi": true,
  "tabWidth": 4,
  "trailingComma": "es5",
  "useTabs": true,
  "plugins": [
    "prettier-plugin-tailwindcss",
    "prettier-plugin-organize-imports"
  ]
}
```

**Source code**
```typescript
import clsx from "clsx";
export default function Home() {
  return (
      <main>
	      {clsx("asdjklasdjlkasd", "asdjlkasjdjlk")}
      </main>
  );
}
```

### Findings
After a deep dive with @mrnugget, I was debugging deep down the prettier
plugin system and found the issue that was causing this issue. When I
was looking inside the
`node_modules/prettier-plugin-organize-imports/lib/organize.js`. I saw
the following code that looked strange to me because it falls back to
`file.ts` if `filepath` is not passed through inside the prettier config
options.

<img width="860" alt="Screenshot 2024-03-20 at 21 31 46"
src="https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/assets/62463826/47177fe5-e5a9-41d8-9f2f-0304b2c2159f">

So the issue was small, if you look at the following code, the `path`
key should be `filepath` inside the
`crates/prettier/src/prettier_server.js:205`

Allow extensions to define more of the methods in the LspAdapter trait (#9554)
Our goal is to extract Svelte support into an extension, since we've
seen problems with the Tree-sitter Svelte parser crashing due to bugs in
the external scanner. In order to do this, we need a couple more
capabilities in LSP extensions:

* [x] `initialization_options` - programmatically controlling the JSON
initialization params sent to the language server
* [x] `prettier_plugins` - statically specifying a list of prettier
plugins that apply for a given language.
* [x] `npm_install_package`

Format prettier_server.js (#9583)
This PURELY formats the file by opening it in Zed and hitting save with
save-on-format on.

It's been bugging me that I can't change the file without the whole

Fix prettier plugins does not seem to be picked up (#9193)
This fixed the issue that prettier plugins were not picked up. The old
code would always send an empty array to the prettier plugin that
happens inside the `prettier_server.js`.

**Before**
The `options.plugins` key is an empty array, which is not correct.
```log
stderr: Resolved config: {"singleQuote":true,"trailingComma":"all","plugins":["prettier-plugin-organize-imports"]}, will format file '/Users/remcosmits/Documents/code/prettier-test/src/app/page.tsx' with options: {"singleQuote":true,"trailingComma":"all","plugins":[],"parser":"typescript","path":"/Users/remcosmits/Documents/code/prettier-test/src/app/page.tsx"}
```

https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/assets/62463826/52f2aad0-2f96-43a9-81ec-9d4630c495b2

**After**
The `options.plugins` contains the `prettier-plugin-organize-imports`
plugin as expected.
```log
stderr: Resolved config: {"singleQuote":true,"trailingComma":"all","plugins":["prettier-plugin-organize-imports"]}, will format file '/Users/remcosmits/Documents/code/prettier-test/src/app/page.tsx' with options: {"singleQuote":true,"trailingComma":"all","plugins":["prettier-plugin-organize-imports"],"parser":"typescript","path":"/Users/remcosmits/Documents/code/prettier-test/src/app/page.tsx"}
Move Clippy configuration to the workspace level (#8891)
This PR moves the Clippy configuration up to the workspace level.
We're using the [`lints`
table](https://doc.rust-lang.org/cargo/reference/workspaces.html#the-lints-table)
to configure the Clippy ruleset in the workspace's `Cargo.toml`.
Each crate in the workspace now has the following in their own
`Cargo.toml` to inherit the lints from the workspace:
```toml
[lints]
workspace = true
```
This allows for configuring rust-analyzer to show Clippy lints in the
editor by using the following configuration in your Zed `settings.json`:
```json
{
  "lsp": {
    "rust-analyzer": {
      "initialization_options": {
        "check": {
          "command": "clippy"
        }
      }
    }
  }
```
