helix: Change f and t motions (#35216)
In vim and zed (vim and helix modes) typing "tx" will jump before the
next `x`, but typing it again won't do anything. But in helix the cursor
just jumps before the `x` after that. I added that in helix mode.
This also solves another small issue where the selection doesn't include
the first `x` after typing "fx" twice. And similarly after typing "Fx"
or "Tx" the selection should include the character that the motion
startet on.

Remove into SelectionEffects from .change_selections (#33554)
In #32656 I generalized the argument to change selections to allow
controling both the scroll and the nav history (and the completion
trigger).

To avoid conflicting with ongoing debugger cherry-picks I left the
argument as an `impl Into<>`, but I think it's clearer to make callers
specify what they want here.

I converted a lot of `None` arguments to `SelectionEffects::no_scroll()`
to be exactly compatible; but I think many people used none as an "i
don't care" value in which case Default::default() might be more
appropraite

vim: Better jump list support (#33495)

Closes some Discord chats

Release Notes:

- vim: Motions now push to the jump list using the same logic as vim
(i.e.

actions
(including clicking with the mouse) continue to push to the jump list

gpui: Simplify Action macros + support doc comments in actions! (#33263)
Instead of a menagerie of macros for implementing `Action`, now there
are just two:

* `actions!(editor, [MoveLeft, MoveRight])`
* `#[derive(..., Action)]` with `#[action(namespace = editor)]`

In both contexts, `///` doc comments can be provided and will be used in
`JsonSchema`.

In both contexts, parameters can provided in `#[action(...)]`:

- `namespace = some_namespace` sets the namespace. In Zed this is
required.

- `name = "ActionName"` overrides the action's name. This must not
contain "::".

- `no_json` causes the `build` method to always error and
`action_json_schema` to return `None`
and allows actions not implement `serde::Serialize` and
`schemars::JsonSchema`.

- `no_register` skips registering the action. This is useful for
implementing the `Action` trait
while not supporting invocation by name or JSON deserialization.

- `deprecated_aliases = ["editor::SomeAction"]` specifies deprecated old
names for the action.
These action names should *not* correspond to any actions that are
registered. These old names
can then still be used to refer to invoke this action. In Zed, the
keymap JSON schema will
accept these old names and provide warnings.

- `deprecated = "Message about why this action is deprecation"`
specifies a deprecation message.
In Zed, the keymap JSON schema will cause this to be displayed as a
warning. This is a new feature.

Also makes the following changes since this seems like a good time to
make breaking changes:

* In `zed.rs` tests adds a test with an explicit list of namespaces. The
rationale for this is that there is otherwise no checking of `namespace
= ...` attributes.

* `Action::debug_name` renamed to `name_for_type`, since its only
difference with `name` was that it

* `Action::name` now returns `&'static str` instead of `&str` to match
the return of `name_for_type`. This makes the action trait more limited,
but the code was already assuming that `name_for_type` is the same as
`name`, and it requires `&'static`. So really this just makes the trait
harder to misuse.

* Various action reflection methods now use `&'static str` instead of
`SharedString`.

vim: Fix end of paragraph deletion when there's no blank lines (#29490)
This Pull Request attempts to fix an issue where using `d}` in vim mode
would not delete all characters in case there's no blank lines at the
end of the buffer.

When calculating the end point for this motion, if there's no blank
lines at the end of the buffer, Zed was calculating it to be the last
character in the last line. However, if there's a newline at the end of
the buffer, it calculates the end point to be the point at the right of
the last character.

Here's an example, for the following buffer contents:

```
Hello!
Hello!
```

If the `d}` command is run at `(0, 0)`, the end point will be set to
`(1, 5)`. However, fi the same command is run for this buffer instead:

```
Hello!
Hello!
```

The end point will be set to `(1, 6)`, there's a 1 unit difference in
the column, which leads to all characters actually being deleted.

Closes #29393

vim: Add some forced motion support (#27991)
Closes https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/issues/20971

Added `v` input to yank and delete to override default motion. The
global vim state tracking if the forced motion flag was passed handled
the same way that the count is. [The main chunk of code maps the motion
kind from the default to the overridden
kind](https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/pull/27991/files#diff-2dca6b7d1673c912d14e4edc74e415abbe3a4e6d6b37e0e2006d30828bf4bb9cR1249-R1254).
To handle the case of deleting a single character (dv0) at the start of
a row I had to modify the control flow
[here](https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/pull/27991/files#diff-2dca6b7d1673c912d14e4edc74e415abbe3a4e6d6b37e0e2006d30828bf4bb9cR1240-R1244).
Then to handle an exclusive delete till the end of the row (dv$) I
[saturated the endpoint with a left
bias](https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/pull/27991/files#diff-2dca6b7d1673c912d14e4edc74e415abbe3a4e6d6b37e0e2006d30828bf4bb9cR1281-R1286).

vim: Fix space forward bug with non-ASCII characters at EOL (#27860)
Closes https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/issues/27619

Fixes issue with right wrapped movement when a multi-byte character is
at the end of the line. This is done by grabbing the last character on
the current row and using that characters size to calculate the
`max_column` variable, which is used to decide if the next right
movement should move down the line or not.

We did notice a bit of code that could be an issue that we wanted to
call out.
[Here](https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/blob/main/crates/editor/src/display_map.rs#L1070)
inside of `clip_at_line_end` it also does a saturating_sub(1), assuming
a single byte character. We didn't run into any issues due to this line
but felt like a similar bug. We can apply a similar fix if wanted to
pose the question first.

vim: Handle exclusive-linewise edgecase correctly (#27786)
Before this change we didn't explicitly handle vim's exclusive-linewise
edgecase
(https://neovim.io/doc/user/motion.html#exclusive).

Instead we had hard-coded workarounds in a few places to make our tests
pass.
The most pernicious of these workarounds was that we represented a
visual line
selection as including the trailing newline (or leading newline for
files that
end with no newline), which other code had to undo to get back to what
the user

Add editor actions for moving and selecting to next / previous excerpt (#25299)
Covers part of #5129 by adding `MoveToStartOfExcerpt`,
`MoveToEndOfExcerpt`, `SelectToStartOfExcerpt`, and
`SelectToEndOfExcerpt`.

No default linux bindings yet as it's unclear what to use. Currently,
`ctrl-up` / `ctrl-down` scroll up and down by one line (see #13269).
Considering changing the meaning of those.

Mac:

* Previously `cmd-up` and `cmd-down` were `editor::MoveToBeginning` and
`editor::MoveToEnd`. In singleton editors these will behave the same as
before. In multibuffers, they will now step through excerpts instead of
jumping to the beginning / end of the multibuffer.

* `cmd-home` and `cmd-end`, often typed as `cmd-fn-left` and
`cmd-fn-right` are now `editor::MoveToBeginning` and
`editor::MoveToEnd`. This is useful in multibuffers.

Release Notes:

- Mac: `cmd-up` now moves to the previous
multibuffer excerpt start, and `cmd-down` moves to the next multibuffer
excerpt end. Within normal buffers these behave the same as before, moving
to the beginning or end.

Eliminate GPUI View, ViewContext, and WindowContext types (#22632)
There's still a bit more work to do on this, but this PR is compiling
(with warnings) after eliminating the key types. When the tasks below
are complete, this will be the new narrative for GPUI:

- `Entity<T>` - This replaces `View<T>`/`Model<T>`. It represents a unit
of state, and if `T` implements `Render`, then `Entity<T>` implements
`Element`.
- `&mut App` This replaces `AppContext` and represents the app.
- `&mut Context<T>` This replaces `ModelContext` and derefs to `App`. It
is provided by the framework when updating an entity.
- `&mut Window` Broken out of `&mut WindowContext` which no longer
exists. Every method that once took `&mut WindowContext` now takes `&mut
Window, &mut App` and every method that took `&mut ViewContext<T>` now
takes `&mut Window, &mut Context<T>`

Not pictured here are the two other failed attempts. It's been quite a
month!

Tasks:

- [x] Remove `View`, `ViewContext`, `WindowContext` and thread through
`Window`
- [x] [@cole-miller @mikayla-maki] Redraw window when entities change
- [x] [@cole-miller @mikayla-maki] Get examples and Zed running
- [x] [@cole-miller @mikayla-maki] Fix Zed rendering
- [x] [@mikayla-maki] Fix todo! macros and comments
- [x] Fix a bug where the editor would not be redrawn because of view
caching
- [x] remove publicness window.notify() and replace with
`AppContext::notify`
- [x] remove `observe_new_window_models`, replace with
`observe_new_models` with an optional window
- [x] Fix a bug where the project panel would not be redrawn because of
the wrong refresh() call being used
- [x] Fix the tests
- [x] Fix warnings by eliminating `Window` params or using `_`
- [x] Fix conflicts
- [x] Simplify generic code where possible

Improve keymap json schema (#23044)
Also:

* Adds `impl_internal_actions!` for deriving the `Action` trait without
registering.

* Removes some deserializers that immediately fail in favor of
`#[serde(skip)]` on fields where they were used. This also omits them
from the schema.

Release Notes:

- Keymap settings file now has more JSON schema information to inform
`json-language-server` completions and info, particularly for actions
that take input.

vim: Add sneak motion (#22793)
A (re)continuation of https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/pull/21067.

This takes the original implementation in
https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/pull/15572 and adds the test in
https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/pull/21067. Then, as requested in
https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/pull/21067#issuecomment-2515469185,
it documents how to map a keybinding instead of having a setting.

Closes #13858

Release Notes:

- Added support for the popular
[vim_sneak](https://github.com/justinmk/vim-sneak) plugin. This is
disabled by default and can be enabled by binding a key to the `Sneak`
and `SneakBackward` operators.

vim: Fix clipping when navigating over inlay hints (#22813)
This fixes the issue described in this comment:
https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/pull/22439#issuecomment-2563896422

Essentially, we'd clip in the wrong direction when there were multi-line
inlay hints.

It also fixes inline completions for non-Zeta-providers showing up in
normal mode.

vim: Fix deletion with sentence-motion (#22289)
Fixes #22151.

Turns out Vim also has some weird behavior with sentence deletion in
case it's on the first character of a line.

Release Notes:

- vim: Fixed deleting sentence-wise (i.e. `d(` and `d)`), which would
previously delete the whole line instead of just a sentence.

Fix panic folding in multi-buffers (#21511)
Closes #19054

Rename `max_buffer_row()` to `widest_line_number()` to (hopefully)
prevent
people assuming it means the same as `max_point().row`.

Release Notes:

- Fixed a panic when folding in a multibuffer

Implement Helix Support (WIP) (#19175)
Closes #4642

- Added the ability to switch to helix normal mode, with an additional
helix visual mode.
- <kbd>ctrl</kbd><kbd>h</kbd> from Insert mode goes to Helix Normal
mode. <kbd> i </kbd> and <kbd> a </kbd> to go back.
- Need to find a way to perform the helix normal mode selection with
<kbd> w </kbd>, <kbd>e </kbd>, <kbd> b </kbd> as a first step. Need to
figure out how the mode will interoperate with the VIM mode as the new
additions are in the same crate.

Add textobjects queries (#20924)
Co-Authored-By: Max <max@zed.dev>

Release Notes:

- vim: Added motions `[[`, `[]`, `]]`, `][` for navigating by section,
`[m`, `]m`, `[M`, `]M` for navigating by method, and `[*`, `]*`, `[/`,
`]/` for comments. These currently only work for languages built in to
Zed, as they are powered by new tree-sitter queries.
- vim: Added new text objects: `ic`, `ac` for inside/around classes,
`if`,`af` for functions/methods, and `g c` for comments. These currently
only work for languages built in to Zed, as they are powered by new
tree-sitter queries.

Add support for resizing panes using vim motions (#21038)
Closes #8628

Release Notes:

- Added support for resizing the current pane using vim keybinds with
the intention to follow the functionality of vim
  - "ctrl-w +" to make a pane taller
  - "ctrl-w -" to make the pane shorter
  - "ctrl-w >" to make a pane wider
  - "ctrl-w <" to make the pane narrower
- Changed vim pre_count and post_count to globals to allow for other
crates to use the vim count. In this case, it allows for resizing by
more than one unit. For example, "10 ctrl-w -" will decrease the height
of the pane 10 times more than "ctrl-w -"
- This pr does **not** add keybinds for making all panes in an axis
equal size and does **not** add support for resizing docks. This is
mentioned because these could be implied by the original issue
