Before, each time any LSP feature was used on client remote, it always
produced a `proto::` request that always had been sent to the host, from
where returned as an empty response.
Instead, propagate more language server-related data to the client,
`lsp::ServerCapability`, so Zed client can omit certain requests if
those are not supported.
On top of that, rework the approach Zed uses to query for the data
refreshes: before, editors tried to fetch the data when the server start
was reported (locally and remotely).
Now, a later event is selected: on each `textDocument/didOpen` for the
buffer contained in this editor, we will query for new LSP data, reusing
the cache if needed.
Before, servers could reject unregistered files' LSP queries, or process
them slowly when starting up.
Now, such refreshes are happening later and should be cached.
This requires a collab DB change, to restore server data on rejoin.
Release Notes:
- Fixed excessive LSP requests sent during remote sessions
Closes#25586
It is caused due to assumption all character being typed are word
characters and linked edit ranges can be used even when first non-word
character is typed. Because next character passes all the criteria like
being word character, anchor matching the previous range before typing
started, wrong edit take place.
This PR fixes it by clearing linked edit ranges when non-word character
is typed.
Before:
`<div cx^></div>cx` when typing fast.
After:
`<div cx^></div>` always.
Release Notes:
- Fixed a case where extra characters were being written at the end of
an HTML tag.
This is the core change:

TODO:
- [x] Use AsyncFn instead of Fn() -> Future in GPUI spawn methods
- [x] Implement it in the whole app
- [x] Implement it in the debugger
- [x] Glance at the RPC crate, and see if those box future methods can
be switched over. Answer: It can't directly, as you can't make an
AsyncFn* into a trait object. There's ways around that, but they're all
more complex than just keeping the code as is.
- [ ] Fix platform specific code

There's still a bit more work to do on this, but this PR is compiling
(with warnings) after eliminating the key types. When the tasks below
are complete, this will be the new narrative for GPUI:
- `Entity<T>` - This replaces `View<T>`/`Model<T>`. It represents a unit
of state, and if `T` implements `Render`, then `Entity<T>` implements
`Element`.
- `&mut App` This replaces `AppContext` and represents the app.
- `&mut Context<T>` This replaces `ModelContext` and derefs to `App`. It
is provided by the framework when updating an entity.
- `&mut Window` Broken out of `&mut WindowContext` which no longer
exists. Every method that once took `&mut WindowContext` now takes `&mut
Window, &mut App` and every method that took `&mut ViewContext<T>` now
takes `&mut Window, &mut Context<T>`
Not pictured here are the two other failed attempts. It's been quite a
month!
Tasks:
- [x] Remove `View`, `ViewContext`, `WindowContext` and thread through
`Window`
- [x] [@cole-miller @mikayla-maki] Redraw window when entities change
- [x] [@cole-miller @mikayla-maki] Get examples and Zed running
- [x] [@cole-miller @mikayla-maki] Fix Zed rendering
- [x] [@mikayla-maki] Fix todo! macros and comments
- [x] Fix a bug where the editor would not be redrawn because of view
caching
- [x] remove publicness window.notify() and replace with
`AppContext::notify`
- [x] remove `observe_new_window_models`, replace with
`observe_new_models` with an optional window
- [x] Fix a bug where the project panel would not be redrawn because of
the wrong refresh() call being used
- [x] Fix the tests
- [x] Fix warnings by eliminating `Window` params or using `_`
- [x] Fix conflicts
- [x] Simplify generic code where possible
- [x] Rename types
- [ ] Update docs
### issues post merge
- [x] Issues switching between normal and insert mode
- [x] Assistant re-rendering failure
- [x] Vim test failures
- [x] Mac build issue

Follow-up of https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/pull/20171
Reduces time Zed needs to reach maximum search results by an order of a
magnitude.
Methodology:
* plugged-in mac with Instruments and Zed open
* Zed is restarted before each measurement, `zed` project is opened, a
*.rs file is opened and rust-analyzer is fully loaded, file is closed
then
* from an "empty" state, a `test` word is searched in the project search
* each version is checked with project panel; and then, separately,
without it
* after we reach maximum test results (the counter stops at `10191+`),
the measurement stops
Zed Dev is compiled and installed with `./script/bundle-mac -li`

---------------------
Improvements in the outline panel:
* https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/pull/20171 ensured we reuse
previous rendered search results from the outline panel
* all search results are now rendered in the background thread
* only the entries that are rendered with gpui are sent to the
background thread for rendering
* FS entries' update logic does nothing before the debounce now
Improvements in the editor:
* cursor update operations are debounced and all calculations start
after the debounce only
* linked edits are now debounced and all work is done after the debounce
only
Further possible improvements:
* we could batch calculations of text coordinates, related to the search
entries: right now, each search match range is expanded around and
clipped, then fitted to the closest surrounding whitespace (if any,
otherwise it's just trimmed).
Each such calculation requires multiple tree traversals, which is
suboptimal and causes more CPU usage than we could use.
* linked edits are always calculated, even if the language settings have
it disabled, or the corresponding language having no corresponding
capabilities
Release Notes:
- Improve large project search performance
This is a behavior-preserving change, but lays the groundwork for
expanding selections when the cursor lands inside of a "replace" block.

This PR adds support for [linked editing of
ranges](https://microsoft.github.io/language-server-protocol/specifications/lsp/3.17/specification/#textDocument_linkedEditingRange),
which in short means that editing one part of a file can now change
related parts in that same file. Think of automatically renaming
HTML/TSX closing tags when the opening one is changed.
TODO:
- [x] proto changes
- [x] Allow disabling linked editing ranges on a per language basis.
Fixes#4535
Release Notes:
- Added support for linked editing ranges LSP request. Editing opening
tags in HTML/TSX files (with vtsls) performs the same edit on the
closing tag as well (and vice versa). It can be turned off on a language-by-language basis with the following setting:
```
"languages": {
"HTML": {
"linked_edits": true
},
}
```
