Eliminate GPUI View, ViewContext, and WindowContext types (#22632)
There's still a bit more work to do on this, but this PR is compiling
(with warnings) after eliminating the key types. When the tasks below
are complete, this will be the new narrative for GPUI:

- `Entity<T>` - This replaces `View<T>`/`Model<T>`. It represents a unit
of state, and if `T` implements `Render`, then `Entity<T>` implements
`Element`.
- `&mut App` This replaces `AppContext` and represents the app.
- `&mut Context<T>` This replaces `ModelContext` and derefs to `App`. It
is provided by the framework when updating an entity.
- `&mut Window` Broken out of `&mut WindowContext` which no longer
exists. Every method that once took `&mut WindowContext` now takes `&mut
Window, &mut App` and every method that took `&mut ViewContext<T>` now
takes `&mut Window, &mut Context<T>`

Not pictured here are the two other failed attempts. It's been quite a
month!

Tasks:

- [x] Remove `View`, `ViewContext`, `WindowContext` and thread through
`Window`
- [x] [@cole-miller @mikayla-maki] Redraw window when entities change
- [x] [@cole-miller @mikayla-maki] Get examples and Zed running
- [x] [@cole-miller @mikayla-maki] Fix Zed rendering
- [x] [@mikayla-maki] Fix todo! macros and comments
- [x] Fix a bug where the editor would not be redrawn because of view
caching
- [x] remove publicness window.notify() and replace with
`AppContext::notify`
- [x] remove `observe_new_window_models`, replace with
`observe_new_models` with an optional window
- [x] Fix a bug where the project panel would not be redrawn because of
the wrong refresh() call being used
- [x] Fix the tests
- [x] Fix warnings by eliminating `Window` params or using `_`
- [x] Fix conflicts
- [x] Simplify generic code where possible
- [x] Rename types
- [ ] Update docs

project: Allow running multiple instances of a single language server within a single worktree (#23473)
This PR introduces a new entity called Project Tree which is responsible
for finding subprojects within a worktree;
a subproject is a language-specific subset of a worktree which should be
accurately tracked on the language server side. We'll have an ability to
set multiple disjoint workspaceFolders on language server side OR spawn
multiple instances of a single language server (which will be the case
with e.g. Python language servers, as they need to interact with
multiple disjoint virtual environments).
Project Tree assumes that projects of the same LspAdapter kind cannot
overlap. Additionally project nesting is not allowed within the scope of
a single LspAdapter.

Resolve completion items once exactly (#22448)
Closes https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/issues/19214
Closes https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/pull/22443

Adds `resolved` property into Zed completion item data, to ensure we
resolve every completion item exactly once.

There are 2 paths for singplayer Zed, and corresponding 2 analogues for
multi player code, where resolve may happen:
* completions menu display & selection, that ends up using
`resolve_completions` in `lsp_store.rs`
* applying a completion menu entry, that ends up using
`apply_additional_edits_for_completion` in `lsp_store.rs`

Now, all local counterparts check `enabled` field before resolving and
set it to true afterwards, and reuse the same `resolve_completion_local`
method for resolving the items.

A logic for re-generating docs and item labels was moved out from the
`resolve_completion_local` method into a separate method, as
`apply_additional_edits_for_completion` does not need that, but needs
the rest of the logic for resolving.
During the extraction, I've noted that multiplayer clients are not
getting the item labels, regenerated after the resolve — as the Zed
protocol-based flow is not the exact copy of the local resolving.
To improve that, `resolve_completion_remote` needs to be adjusted, but
this change is omitted to avoid bloating the PR.

Filter LSP code actions based on the requested kinds (#20847)
I've observed that Zed's implementation of [Code Actions On
Format](https://zed.dev/docs/configuring-zed#code-actions-on-format)
uses the
[CodeActionContext.only](https://microsoft.github.io/language-server-protocol/specifications/lsp/3.17/specification/#codeActionContext)
parameter to request specific code action kinds from the server. The
issue is that it does not filter out code actions from the response,
believing that the server will do it.

The [LSP
specification](https://microsoft.github.io/language-server-protocol/specifications/lsp/3.17/specification/#codeActionContext)
says that the client is responsible for filtering out unwanted code
actions:

```js
/**
* Requested kind of actions to return.
*
* Actions not of this kind are filtered out by the client before being
* shown. So servers can omit computing them.
*/
only?: CodeActionKind[];
```

This PR will filter out unwanted code action on the client side.

I have initially encountered this issue because the [ZLS language
server](https://github.com/zigtools/zls) (until
https://github.com/zigtools/zls/pull/2087) does not filter code action
based on `CodeActionContext.only` so Zed runs all received code actions
even if they are explicitly disabled in the `code_actions_on_format`
setting.

Release Notes:

- Fix the `code_actions_on_format` setting when used with a language
server like ZLS

Support .editorconfig (#19455)
Closes https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/issues/8534
Supersedes https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/pull/16349

Potential concerns:
* we do not follow up to the `/` when looking for `.editorconfig`, only
up to the worktree root.
Seems fine for most of the cases, and the rest should be solved
generically later, as the same issue exists for settings.json
* `fn language` in `AllLanguageSettings` is very hot, called very
frequently during rendering. We accumulate and parse all `.editorconfig`
file contents beforehand, but have to go over globs and match these
against the path given + merge the properties still.
This does not seem to be very bad, but needs more testing and
potentially some extra caching.

lsp: Support Goto Declaration (#15785)
Adds support for [Goto
Declaration](https://microsoft.github.io/language-server-protocol/specifications/lsp/3.17/specification/#textDocument_declaration)
LSP command.

I am particularly interested in [this for Rust
projects](https://rust-analyzer.github.io/manual.html#go-to-declaration),
to be able to navigate to the place where a trait method is declared,
coming from a trait method implementation.

I noticed this was something I could do in VSCode before, but was
somehow missing is Zed. Thanks to the already existing infrastructure
for Goto Definition, I just followed and copy-paste-adapted it for Goto
Declaration.

As a bonus, I added `ctrl-F12` and `alt-ctrl-F12` as default macOS
keybindings for `GoToDeclaration` and `GoToDeclarationSplit`,
respectively. They are not keybindings from another editor, but I
figured they made sense to be grouped along with the other *F12
commands.

### Release Notes:

- Added "Go to declaration" editor action.
- vim: Breaking change to keybindings after introduction of the `Go to
declaration` editor action. The new keybindings are the following (and
can be found [here](https://zed.dev/docs/vim), alongside the other key
bindings):
  - `g d` - Go to definition
  - `g D` - Go to declaration
  - `g y` - Go to type definition
  - `g I` - Go to implementation

lsp: Check if "Goto Definition" supported before request (#15111)
This is related to #15023 where we have the running Rubocop LSP that
provides diagnostics and formatting capabilities. Rubocop LSP sends its
capabilities
back to Zed without support for "textDocument/definition" request, Zed
actually does not check that and sends a request to Rubocop that results
in the server error "Unsupported method: textDocument/definition".

The fix here is related to

lsp: Check which code actions are supported before request (#14666)
This fixes https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/issues/13633 by not
sending `source.organizeImports` to the ESLint language server anymore.

Turns out that ESLint tells us through its capabilities that it doesn't
support that code action kind, but we ignored that.

What this code does is to check whether a given server supports specific
code action kinds.

It does this in two places:

1. When constructing the request: we now filter down the list of
requested `kinds`, in case we can do so. If we can't filter down the
list, we keep the previous behavior of sending the
   `language_server.code_action_kinds()`
2. Before sending the request: we now check whether the server even
   supports sending the request.

This fixes the issue by only sending actions to servers that support it.

I tested this with various language servers and setups and everything
still works (or works better). But of course there are a ton of
different combinations of language servers and code actions and file
types, so I couldn't test them all.

Release Notes:

- Fix ESLint language server adding comments on save if the
`source.organizeImports` code action was used on save. Zed now filters
out code actions sent to the language servers by checking whether they
are supported first.

Extract a BufferStore object from Project (#14037)
This is a ~small~ pure refactor that's a step toward SSH remoting. I've
extracted the Project's buffer state management into a smaller, separate
struct called `BufferStore`, currently in the same crate. I did this as
a separate PR to reduce conflicts between main and `remoting-over-ssh`.

The idea is to make use of this struct (and other smaller structs that
make up `Project`) in a dedicated, simpler `HeadlessProject` type that
we will use in the SSH server to model the remote end of a project. With
this approach, as we develop the headless project, we can avoid adding
more conditional logic to `Project` itself (which is already very
complex), and actually make `Project` a bit smaller by extracting out
helper objects.

lsp: Implement textDocument/signatureHelp for ProjectClientState::Local environment (#12909)
Closes https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/issues/5155
Closes https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/issues/4879

# Purpose
There was no way to know what to put in function signatures or struct
fields other than hovering at the moment. Therefore, it was necessary to
implement LSP's `textDocument/signatureHelp`.

I tried my best to match the surrounding coding style, but since this is
my first contribution, I believe there are various aspects that may be
lacking. I would greatly appreciate your code review.

# Description
When the window is displayed, the current argument or field at the
cursor's position is automatically bolded. If the cursor moves and there
is nothing to display, the window closes automatically.
To minimize changes and reduce the burden of review and debugging, the
SignatureHelp feature is implemented only when `is_local` is `true`.
Some `unimplemented!()` macros are embedded, but rest assured that they
are not called in this implementation.

lsp: Use itemDefaults if sent along with completion items (#11902)
This fixes #10532 by properly making use of `itemDefaults.data` when
that is sent along next to completion `items`.

With this line here we tell the language server that we support `data`
in `itemDefaults`, but we actually never checked for it and never used
it:

a0d7ec9f8e/crates/lsp/src/lsp.rs (L653)

In the case of `tailwindcss-language-server` that means that most of the
items it returns (more than 10k items!) were missing the `data`
attribute, since the language server thought it can send it along in the
`itemDefaults` (because we advertised our capability to use it.)

When we then did a `completionItem/resolve`, we would not send a `data`
attribute along, which lead to an error on the
`tailwindcss-language-server` side and thus no documentation.

This PR also adds support for the other `itemDefaults` that could be
sent along and that we say we support:

a0d7ec9f8e/crates/lsp/src/lsp.rs (L650-L653)

`editRange` we handle separately, so this PR only adds the other 3.

Release Notes:

- Fixed documentation not showing up for completion items coming from
`tailwindcss-language-server`.

typescript: Complete function calls with snippets (#11157)
This allows function call (i.e. snippet) completion with
`typescript-language-server`. So far that didn't work, because
`typescript-language-server` doesn't respond with `insertText` when
getting the completions, but only when then sending
`completionItem/resolve` requests. See:
https://github.com/hrsh7th/nvim-cmp/issues/646#issuecomment-992765479

What this PR does is to support text edits in the response to
`completionItem/resolve`, which means updating the completion item.

It then enables this feature by default for
`typescript-language-server`.

TODOs:

- [x] Make this work over collab
- [x] Test that this doesn't break existing language server support
- [x] Refactor duplicated code

Release Notes:

- Added support for function call completion when using
`typescript-language-server`. This will result in parameters being
added, which can then be changed and navigated with `<tab>`. For this to
work with `typescript-language-server`, the documentation for a given
completion item needs to be resolved, meaning that if one types very
quickly and accepts completion before `typescript-language-server` could
respond with the documentation, no full function completion is used.

Respect language server's capabilities when calling GetReferences (#10285)
This PR makes Zed respect the language server's capabilities when
calling the `GetReferences` command (used in "Find All References",

This fixes a crash that could occur when using Zed with Gleam v1.0.

Release Notes:

- Made "Find All References" respect the language server's capabilities.
This fixes some instances where certain language servers would stop

Send along diagnostics when requesting code actions (#10281)
This fixes #10177 by sending along the correct diagnostics when querying
the language server for diagnostics for a given cursor location.

Turns out that `gopls` takes the `range`, `source`, `message` of the
diagnostics sent along to check whether it has any code actions for the
given location.

showing up in Go files.

Show status of LSP actions (#9818)
Fixes #4380

Parts im still unsure about:
- [x] where exactly I should call `on_lsp_start`/`on_lsp_end`
- [x] how to handle things better than `let is_references =
TypeId::of::<R>() == TypeId::of::<GetReferences>();`, which feels very
janky
- [x] I want to have the message be something like `"Finding references
to [...]"` instead of just `textDocument/references`, but I'm not sure
how to retrieve the name of the symbol that's being queried
- [ ] I think the bulk of the runtime is occupied by `let result =
language_server.request::<R::LspRequest>(lsp_params).await;`, but since
`ModelContext` isn't passed into it, I'm not sure how to update progress
from within that function
- [x] A good way to disambiguate between multiple calls to the same lsp
function; im currently using the function name itself as the unique
identifier for that request, which could create issues if multiple
`textDocument/references` requests are sent in parallel

Any help with these would be deeply appreciated!

Query code actions and hovers from all related local language servers (from remote clients) (#10111)
Supersedes https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/pull/8634
Fixes https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/issues/7947 by continuing

language servers, not only the primary one.
Such mode is enabled for GetHover and GetCodeActions LSP requests only.

Part of https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/issues/7947 and
https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/issues/9912 that adds makes Zed
query all related language servers instead of the primary one.

Collab clients are still querying the primary one only, but this is
quite hard to solve, https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/pull/8634
drafts a part of it.
The local part is useful per se, as many people use Zed & Tailwind but
do not use collab features.

Unfortunately, eslint still returns empty actions list when queried, but
querying actions for all related language servers looks reasonable and
rare enough to be dangerous.

Always resolve code action if needed (#8904)
Follow-up of https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/pull/8874 and
https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/pull/7635
Closes https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/issues/7609

* mentions all `lsp::CodeActions` properties in the Zed client resolve
capabilities to remove more json out of general actions request
potentially
* removes odd `CodeActions.data` field checks, as that field is opaque
and is intended to store data, needed by the langserver to resolve this
code action
* if any `CodeAction` lacks either `command` or `edits` fields, tries to
resolve the action

This all effectively causes Zed to always fire an action resolve
request, since we update actions list (replacing the resolved actions
with the new, unresolved ones) via `refresh_code_actions`

9e66d48ccd/crates/editor/src/editor.rs (L3650)
that is being called on selections change and the actions menu open.

Yet, we do not query the resolve until the action is either applied
(selected in the list), or called for formatting, so it seems to be fine
to resolve them always, as it's not a frequent operation such as
reacting to every keystroke.

- Fixed certain code actions not being resolved properly ([7609](https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/issues/7609))

Add initial support for defining language server adapters in WebAssembly-based extensions (#8645)
This PR adds **internal** ability to run arbitrary language servers via
WebAssembly extensions. The functionality isn't exposed yet - we're just
landing this in this early state because there have been a lot of
changes to the `LspAdapter` trait, and other language server logic.

## Next steps

* Currently, wasm extensions can only define how to *install* and run a
language server, they can't yet implement the other LSP adapter methods,
such as formatting completion labels and workspace symbols.
* We don't have an automatic way to install or develop these types of
extensions
* We don't have a way to package these types of extensions in our
extensions repo, to make them available via our extensions API.
* The Rust extension API crate, `zed-extension-api` has not yet been
published to crates.io, because we still consider the API a work in
progress.
