Modified `Buffer::reload` in `buffer.rs` to use this new function, allowing Zed
to open files with any encoding in UTF-8 mode. Files with characters that
are invalid in UTF-8 will have those bytes replaced with the character.
Add comments and documentation.
This removes around 900 unnecessary clones, ranging from cloning a few
ints all the way to large data structures and images.
A lot of these were fixed using `cargo clippy --fix --workspace
--all-targets`, however it often breaks other lints and needs to be run
again. This was then followed up with some manual fixing.
I understand this is a large diff, but all the changes are pretty
trivial. Rust is doing some heavy lifting here for us. Once I get it up
to speed with main, I'd appreciate this getting merged rather sooner
than later.

Follow-up for #36093 and
https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/pull/36138
Since v1.355.0, `@github/copilot-language-server` has stopped responding
to `CheckStatus` requests if a `DidChangeConfiguration` notification
hasn’t been sent beforehand. This causes `CheckStatus` to remain in an
await state until it times out, leaving the connection stuck for a long
period before finally throwing a timeout error.
```rs
let status = server
.request::<request::CheckStatus>(request::CheckStatusParams {
local_checks_only: false,
})
.await
.into_response() // bails here with ConnectionResult::Timeout
.context("copilot: check status")?;
````
This PR fixes the issue by sending the `DidChangeConfiguration`
notification before making the `CheckStatus` request. It’s just an
ordering change i.e. no other LSP actions occur between these two calls.
Previously, we only updated our internal connection status and UI in
between.

This is a bit of a readability improvement IMHO; I often find myself
confused when dealing when dimension pairs, as there's no easy way to
jump to the implementation of a dimension for tuples to remind myself
for the n-th time how exactly that impl works. Now it should be possible
to jump directly to that impl.
Another bonus is that Dimension supports 3-ary tuples as well - by using
a () as a default value of a 3rd dimension.

Even after #35327 edit predictions were still being queried and shown
after setting `"disable_ai": true`
Also moves `DisableAiSettings` to the `project` crate so that it gets
included in tests via existing use of `Project::init_settings(cx)`.
Release Notes:
- Fixed `"disable_ai": true` setting disabling edit predictions.
This includes making sure that both the agent panel and Zed's edit
prediction have a consistent narrative when it comes to onboarding users
into the AI features, considering the possible different plans and
conditions (such as being signed in/out, account age, etc.)

This addresses:
https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/pull/32248#issuecomment-2952060834.
This PR address two main things one allowing enterprise users to use
copilot chat and completion while also introducing the new way to handle
copilot url specific their subscription. Simplifying the UX around the
github copilot and removes the burden of users figuring out what url to
use for their subscription.
- [x] Pass enterprise_uri to copilot lsp so that it can redirect users
to their enterprise server. Ref:
https://github.com/github/copilot-language-server-release#configuration-management
- [x] Remove the old ui and config language_models.copilot which allowed
users to specify their copilot_chat specific endpoint. We now derive
that automatically using token endpoint for copilot so that we can send
the requests to specific copilot endpoint for depending upon the url
returned by copilot server.
- [x] Tested this for checking the both enterprise and non-enterprise
flow work. Thanks to @theherk for the help to debug and test it.
- [ ] Udpdate the zed.dev/docs to refelect how to setup enterprise
copilot.
What this doesn't do at the moment:
* Currently zed doesn't allow to have two seperate accounts as the token
used in chat is same as the one generated by lsp. After this changes
also this behaviour remains same and users can't have both enterprise
and personal copilot installed.
P.S: Might need to do some bit of code cleanup and other things but
overall I felt this PR was ready for atleast first pass of review to
gather feedback around the implementation and code itself.

Closes [#13107](https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/issues/13107)
Enabled pull diagnostics by default, for the language servers that
declare support in the corresponding capabilities.
```
"diagnostics": {
"lsp_pull_diagnostics_debounce_ms": null
}
```
settings can be used to disable the pulling.
Release Notes:
- Added support for the LSP `textDocument/diagnostic` command.
# Brief
This is draft PR that implements the LSP `textDocument/diagnostic`
command. The goal is to receive your feedback and establish further
steps towards fully implementing this command. I tried to re-use
existing method and structures to ensure:
1. The existing functionality works as before
2. There is no interference between the diagnostics sent by a server and
the diagnostics requested by a client.
The current implementation is done via a new LSP command
`GetDocumentDiagnostics` that is sent when a buffer is saved and when a
buffer is edited. There is a new method called `pull_diagnostic` that is
called for such events. It has debounce to ensure we don't spam a server
with commands every time the buffer is edited. Probably, we don't need
the debounce when the buffer is saved.
All in all, the goal is basically to get your feedback and ensure I am
on the right track. Thanks!

https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/issues/30972 brought up another
case where our context is not enough to track the actual source of the
issue: we get a general top-level error without inner error.
The reason for this was `.ok_or_else(|| anyhow!("failed to read HEAD
SHA"))?; ` on the top level.
The PR finally reworks the way we use anyhow to reduce such issues (or
at least make it simpler to bubble them up later in a fix).
On top of that, uses a few more anyhow methods for better readability.
* `.ok_or_else(|| anyhow!("..."))`, `map_err` and other similar error
conversion/option reporting cases are replaced with `context` and
`with_context` calls
* in addition to that, various `anyhow!("failed to do ...")` are
stripped with `.context("Doing ...")` messages instead to remove the
parasitic `failed to` text
* `anyhow::ensure!` is used instead of `if ... { return Err(...); }`
calls
* `anyhow::bail!` is used instead of `return Err(anyhow!(...));`

TODO:

- [x] Implement it in the whole app
- [x] Implement it in the debugger
- [x] Glance at the RPC crate, and see if those box future methods can

more complex than just keeping the code as is.

When copilot is not being used as the edit prediction provider and you
open a fresh Zed instance, we don’t run the copilot language server.
This is because copilot chat is purely handled via oauth token and
doesn’t require the language server.
In this case, if you click sign out, instead of asking the language
server to sign out (which isn’t running), we can manually clear the
config directory, which contains the oauth tokens. We already watch this
directory, and if the token is not found, we update the sign-in status.

This PR allows you to use copilot chat for assistant without setting
copilot as the edit prediction provider.
[copilot.webm](https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/fecfbde1-d72c-4c0c-b080-a07671fb846e)
Todos:
- [x] Remove redudant "copilot" key from settings
- [x] Do not disable copilot LSP when `edit_prediction_provider` is not
set to `copilot`
- [x] Start copilot LSP when:
- [x] `edit_prediction_provider` is set to `copilot`
- [x] Copilot sign in clicked from assistant settings
- [x] Handle flicker for frame after starting LSP, but before signing in
caused due to signed out status
- [x] Fixed this by adding intermediate state for awaiting signing in in
sign out enum
- [x] Handle cancel button should sign out from `copilot` (existing bug)
- [x] Handle modal dismissal should sign out if not in signed in state
(existing bug)
Release Notes:
- You can now sign into Copilot from assistant settings without making
it your edit prediction provider. This is useful if you want to use
Copilot chat while keeping a different provider, like Zed, for
predictions.
- Removed the `copilot` key from `features` in settings. Use
`edit_prediction_provider` instead.
Closes#6701 (one of the top ranking issues as of writing)
Adds the ability to specify an HTTP/HTTPS proxy to route Copilot code
completion API requests through. This should fix copilot functionality
in restricted network environments (where such a proxy is required) but
also opens up the ability to point copilot code completion requests at
your own local LLM, using e.g.:
- https://github.com/jjleng/copilot-proxy
- https://github.com/bernardo-bruning/ollama-copilot/tree/master
External MITM-proxy tools permitting, this can serve as a stop-gap to
allow local LLM code completion in Zed until a proper OpenAI-compatible
local code completions provider is implemented. With this in mind, in
this PR I've added separate `settings.json` variables to configure a
proxy server _specific to the code completions provider_ instead of
using the global `proxy` setting, to allow for cases like this where we
_only_ want to proxy e.g. the Copilot requests, but not all outgoing
traffic from the application.
Currently, two new settings are added:
- `inline_completions.copilot.proxy`: Proxy server URL (HTTP and HTTPS
schemes supported)
- `inline_completions.copilot.proxy_no_verify`: Whether to disable
certificate verification through the proxy
Example:
```js
"features": {
"inline_completion_provider": "copilot"
},
"show_completions_on_input": true,
// New:
"inline_completions": {
"copilot": {
"proxy": "http://example.com:15432",
"proxy_no_verify": true
}
}
```
Release Notes:
- Added the ability to specify an HTTP/HTTPS proxy for Copilot.

Release Notes:

There's still a bit more work to do on this, but this PR is compiling
(with warnings) after eliminating the key types. When the tasks below
are complete, this will be the new narrative for GPUI:
- `Entity<T>` - This replaces `View<T>`/`Model<T>`. It represents a unit
of state, and if `T` implements `Render`, then `Entity<T>` implements
`Element`.
- `&mut App` This replaces `AppContext` and represents the app.
- `&mut Context<T>` This replaces `ModelContext` and derefs to `App`. It
is provided by the framework when updating an entity.
- `&mut Window` Broken out of `&mut WindowContext` which no longer
exists. Every method that once took `&mut WindowContext` now takes `&mut
Window, &mut App` and every method that took `&mut ViewContext<T>` now
takes `&mut Window, &mut Context<T>`
Not pictured here are the two other failed attempts. It's been quite a
month!
Tasks:
- [x] Remove `View`, `ViewContext`, `WindowContext` and thread through
`Window`
- [x] [@cole-miller @mikayla-maki] Redraw window when entities change
- [x] [@cole-miller @mikayla-maki] Get examples and Zed running
- [x] [@cole-miller @mikayla-maki] Fix Zed rendering
- [x] [@mikayla-maki] Fix todo! macros and comments
- [x] Fix a bug where the editor would not be redrawn because of view
caching
- [x] remove publicness window.notify() and replace with
`AppContext::notify`
- [x] remove `observe_new_window_models`, replace with
`observe_new_models` with an optional window
- [x] Fix a bug where the project panel would not be redrawn because of
the wrong refresh() call being used
- [x] Fix the tests
- [x] Fix warnings by eliminating `Window` params or using `_`
- [x] Fix conflicts
- [x] Simplify generic code where possible
- [x] Rename types
- [ ] Update docs
### issues post merge
- [x] Issues switching between normal and insert mode
- [x] Assistant re-rendering failure
- [x] Vim test failures

This PR introduces a new entity called Project Tree which is responsible
for finding subprojects within a worktree;
a subproject is a language-specific subset of a worktree which should be
accurately tracked on the language server side. We'll have an ability to
set multiple disjoint workspaceFolders on language server side OR spawn
multiple instances of a single language server (which will be the case
with e.g. Python language servers, as they need to interact with
multiple disjoint virtual environments).
Project Tree assumes that projects of the same LspAdapter kind cannot
overlap. Additionally project nesting is not allowed within the scope of
a single LspAdapter.
