language: Add context-aware decrease indent for Python (#33370)
Closes #33238, follow-up to
https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/pull/29625.

Changes:

- Removed `significant_indentation`, which was the way to introduce
indentation scoping in languages like Python. However, it turned out to
be unnecessarily complicated to define and maintain.
- Introduced `decrease_indent_patterns`, which takes a `pattern` keyword
to automatically outdent and `valid_after` keywords to treat as valid
code points to snap to. The outdent happens to the most recent
`valid_after` keyword that also has less or equal indentation than the
currently typed keyword.

Fixes:

1. In Python, typing `except`, `finally`, `else`, and so on now
automatically indents intelligently based on the context in which it
appears. For instance:

```py
try:
    if a == 1:
        try:
             b = 2
             ^  # <-- typing "except:" here would indent it to inner try block
```

but,

```py
try:
    if a == 1:
        try:
             b = 2
    ^  # <-- typing "except:" here would indent it to outer try block
```

2. Fixes comments not maintaining indent.

Release Notes:

- Improved auto outdent for Python while typing keywords like `except`,
`else`, `finally`, etc.
- Fixed the issue where comments in Python would not maintain their
indentation.

debugger: Generate inline values based on debugger.scm file (#33081)
## Context

To support inline values a language will have to implement their own
provider trait that walks through tree sitter nodes. This is overly
complicated, hard to accurately implement for each language, and lacks
proper extension support.

This PR switches to a singular inline provider that uses a language's
`debugger.scm` query field to capture variables and scopes. The inline
provider is able to use this information to generate inlays that take
scope into account and work with any language that defines a debugger
query file.

Fix race condition between auto-indent and on-type-formatting (#32005)
This PR addresses to fix (#31308) a race condition where auto-indent (in
buffer.cs) and on-type-formatting (in lsp_store.rs) concurrently
calculate indentation using the same buffer snapshot.

Previous Solution (Abandoned): 
https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/pull/31340

Final Solution:
Delay applying on-type-formatting until auto-indent is complete.

Issue:

If AutoindentMode finishes first, formatting works correctly. If
"Formatting on typing" starts before AutoindentMode completes, it
results in double indentation.

Implement the rest of the worktree pulls (#32269)
Follow-up of https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/pull/19230

Implements the workspace diagnostics pulling, and replaces "pull
diagnostics every open editors' buffer" strategy with "pull changed
buffer's diagnostics" + "schedule workspace diagnostics pull" for the
rest of the diagnostics.

This means that if the server does not support the workspace diagnostics
and does not return more in linked files, only the currently edited
buffer has its diagnostics updated.

This is better than the existing implementation that causes a lot of
diagnostics pulls to be done instead, and we can add more heuristics on
top later for querying more diagnostics.

I didn't find an executor-agnostic watch crate that was well maintained
(we already tried postage and async-watch), so decided to implement it
our own version.

Improve handling of injection.combined injections in SyntaxSnapshot::layers_for_range (#32145)
Closes #27596

The problem in this case was incorrect identification of which language
(layer) contains the selection.

Language layer selection incorrectly assumed that the deepest
`SyntaxLayer` containing a range was the most specific. This worked for
Markdown (base document + injected subtrees) but failed for PHP, where
`injection.combined` injections are used to make HTML logically function
as the base layer, despite being at a greater depth in the layer stack.
This caused HTML to be incorrectly identified as the most specific
language for PHP ranges.

The solution is to track included sub-ranges for syntax layers and
filter out layers that don't contain a sub-range covering the desired
range. The top-level layer is never filtered to ensure gaps between
sibling nodes always have a fallback language, as the top-level layer is
likely more correct than the default language settings.

lsp: Implement support for the textDocument/diagnostic command (#19230)

Enabled pull diagnostics by default, for the language servers that
declare support in the corresponding capabilities.

# Brief

This is draft PR that implements the LSP `textDocument/diagnostic`
command. The goal is to receive your feedback and establish further
steps towards fully implementing this command. I tried to re-use
existing method and structures to ensure:

1. The existing functionality works as before
2. There is no interference between the diagnostics sent by a server and
the diagnostics requested by a client.

The current implementation is done via a new LSP command
`GetDocumentDiagnostics` that is sent when a buffer is saved and when a
buffer is edited. There is a new method called `pull_diagnostic` that is
called for such events. It has debounce to ensure we don't spam a server
with commands every time the buffer is edited. Probably, we don't need
the debounce when the buffer is saved.

All in all, the goal is basically to get your feedback and ensure I am
on the right track. Thanks!

Limit BufferSnapshot::surrounding_word search to 256 characters (#32016)
This is the first step to closing #16120. Part of the problem was that
`surrounding_word` would search the whole line for matches with no
limit.

language: Improve auto-indentation when using round brackets in Python (#31260)
Follow-up to #29625 and #30902

This PR reintroduces auto-intents for brackets in Python and fixes some
cases where an indentation would be triggered if it should not. For
example, upon typing

```python
a = []
```
and inserting a newline after, the next line would be indented although
it shoud not be.

Bracket auto-indentation was tested prior to #29625 but removed there
and the test updated accordingly. #30902 reintroduced this for all
brackets but `()`. I reintroduced this here, reverted the changes to the
test so that indents also happen after typing `()`. This is frequently
used for tuples and multiline statements in Python.

Use anyhow more idiomatically (#31052)
https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/issues/30972 brought up another
case where our context is not enough to track the actual source of the
issue: we get a general top-level error without inner error.

The reason for this was `.ok_or_else(|| anyhow!("failed to read HEAD
SHA"))?; ` on the top level.

The PR finally reworks the way we use anyhow to reduce such issues (or
at least make it simpler to bubble them up later in a fix).
On top of that, uses a few more anyhow methods for better readability.

* `.ok_or_else(|| anyhow!("..."))`, `map_err` and other similar error
conversion/option reporting cases are replaced with `context` and
`with_context` calls
* in addition to that, various `anyhow!("failed to do ...")` are
stripped with `.context("Doing ...")` messages instead to remove the
parasitic `failed to` text
* `anyhow::ensure!` is used instead of `if ... { return Err(...); }`
calls
* `anyhow::bail!` is used instead of `return Err(anyhow!(...));`

This fixes multiple cases where Python indentation breaks:
- [x] Adding a new line after `if`, `try`, etc. correctly indents in
that scope
- [x] Multi-cursor tabs correctly preserve relative indents

debugger: Add inline value tests (#29815)
## Context

This PR improves the accuracy of our inline values for Rust/Python. It
does this by only adding inline value hints to the last valid use of a
variable and checking whether variables are valid within a given scope
or not.

We also added tests for Rust/Python inline values and inline values
refreshing when stepping in a debug session.

### Future tasks
1. Handle functions that have inner functions defined within them.
2. Add inline values to variables that were used in inner scopes but not
defined in them.
3. Move the inline value provider trait and impls to the language trait
(or somewhere else).
4. Use Semantic tokens as the first inline value provider and fall back
to tree sitter
5. add let some variable statement, for loops, and function inline value
hints to Rust.
6. Make writing tests more streamlined. 
6.1 We should be able to write a test by only passing in variables,
language, source file, expected result, and stop position to a function.
7. Write a test that has coverage for selecting different stack frames.

language: Fix larger syntax node when cursor is at end of word or line (#29978)
Closes #28699

Fixes two cases in the `editor::SelectLargerSyntaxNode` action:
1. When cursor is at the end of a word, it now selects that word first
instead of selecting the whole line.
2. When cursor is at the end of a line, it now selects that line first
instead of selecting the whole code block.

Allow StreamingEditFileTool to also create files (#29785)
Refs #29733 

This pull request introduces a new field to the `StreamingEditFileTool`
that lets the model create or overwrite a file in a streaming way. When
one of the `assistant.stream_edits` setting / `agent-stream-edits`
feature flag is enabled, we are going to disable the `CreateFileTool` so
that the agent model can only use `StreamingEditFileTool` for file
creation.

Introduce a new StreamingEditFileTool (#29733)
This pull request introduces a new tool for streaming edits. The
short-term goal is for this tool to replace the existing `EditFileTool`,
but we want to get this out the door as soon as possible so that we can
start testing it.

`StreamingEditFileTool` is mutually exclusive with `EditFileTool`. It
will be enabled by default for anyone who has the `agent-stream-edits`
feature flag, as well as people that set `assistant.stream_edits` to
`true` in their settings.

### Implementation

Streaming is achieved by requesting a completion while the `edit_file`
tool gets called. We invoke the model by taking the existing
conversation with the agent and appending a prompt specifically tailored
for editing. In that prompt, we ask the model to produce a stream of
`<old_text>`/`<new_text>` tags. As the model streams text in, we
incrementally parse it and start editing as soon as we can.

### Evals

Note that, as part of this pull request, I also defined some new evals
that I used to drive the behavior of the recursive LLM call. To run
them, use this command:

```bash
cargo test --package=assistant_tools --features eval -- eval_extract_handle_command_output
```

Or comment out the `#[cfg_attr(not(feature = "eval"), ignore)]` macro.

I recommend running them one at a time, because right now we don't
really have a way of orchestrating of all these evals. I think we should
invest into that effort once the new agent panel goes live.

debugger: Add support for inline value hints (#28656)
This PR uses Tree Sitter to show inline values while a user is in a
debug session.

We went with Tree Sitter over the LSP Inline Values request because the
LSP request isn't widely supported. Tree Sitter is easy for
languages/extensions to add support to. Tree Sitter can compute the
inline values locally, so there's no need to add extra RPC messages for
Collab. Tree Sitter also gives Zed more control over how we want to show
variables.

There's still more work to be done after this PR, namely differentiating
between global/local scoped variables, but it's a great starting point
to start iteratively improving it.

language: Fix language_scope_at for markdown code comments (#29230)
Closes #29176

This PR fix an issue where uncommenting a code block in Markdown would
add Markdown comments instead of removing the language-specific
comments.

Why?
`language_scope_at` for comments in a code block in Markdown would
result in the language being detected as Markdown. This happens because
the smallest range, such as `//` or `#` on the Markdown layer, is
preferred over `// whole comment line` for any other language. This
results in language detection as Markdown for that point.

To fix this, we also use a depth factor and try to prefer the layer with
greater depth over one with lesser depth. In this case, the code block's
language depth would be preferred over Markdown. The smallest range is
now used as a tiebreaker.

Added test for this case.

snippets: Fix plaintext snippets not working (#28655)

snippets: Fix snippets for PHP and ERB languages (#27718)
Closes #21541
Closes #22726

This should fix snippets in languages, like PHP, that are based on the
HTML syntax layer. To be honest, I don't totally get where HTML comes
into it, but the issues outlined in #21541 and #22726 both boil down to
"Zed only shows me HTML snippets in PHP/ERB files; I expected to see
PHP/ERB snippets". This solution is based on the comments between
@mrnugget and @osiewicz in #22726: resolve/combine snippets for all
language layers at the given position, whereas current behavior is to
resolve snippets only for the `.last()` language layer at the given
position.

- add `Buffer:languages_at()` (note the plural)
- update `snippet_completions()` in `editor.rs` to loop over each
language, gathering snippets as it goes
- the primary logic for resolving snippets within a single language has
not changed

### Verifying this change

I couldn't find tests related to snippet and currently active languages
(CI may show them to me 😆 ) but I can add some if desired and w/ perhaps
a little coaching or prompting about another test to look to for
inspiration. I have confirmed that this works for PHP, but I have not
checked ERB because I'm not familiar with it or set up for it.

To check this manually:
1. install the PHP extension
2. install at least 1 snippet for each of html, php and phpdoc. If you
don't have any, these should work:

### Performance

This adds 2 separate (not nested) loops to `snippet_completions()`, each
of which will iterate over the active language scopes at the given
location. I have not looked into the specifics of how many layers most
languages have, but I suspect that *most* users will see identical
performance as before because there will only be 1 scope active most of
the time.

In some cases, though (eg PHP, ERB, maybe template strings in JS), the
editor will be looping over more layers, possibly many in some deeply
injected/embedded cases (I'm thinking of a regex template string in a JS
heredoc string in a PHP script in an HTML file). I don't expect this to
be an issue – nor has it been in my usage and testing – but performance
of snippets could be affected in pathological cases.

### Alternate solutions

Instead of resolving snippets for *all* layers, we could just change how
we pick which language to resolve. Instead of always using `.last()`,
perhaps we could do something more clever. This feels like it could be
tricky and potentially error prone, though.

Release Notes:

- Fixed snippets in PHP, ERB and other languages whose syntax layers are
based on HTML

buffer: Fix broken auto indent when pasting code starting with new line (#28134)
Closes #26907

Currently, in case of new line to find delta, it is comparing old first
line indent with new second line indent. This results into incorrect
indentation. This PR fixes this delta calculation by passing correct
second line indent in that particular case.

Don't consider empty deleted files to be dirty or conflicting (#27701)
When a file is deleted outside of Zed, but it doesn't have any unsaved
changes, it shouldn't be considered "dirty" (prompting you before you
close it).

Add completion_query_characters in language (#27175)
Closes #18581

Now characters for completing query and word characters, which are
responsible for selecting words by double clicking or navigating, are
different. This fixes a bunch of things:

For settings.json, this improves completions to treat the whole string
as a completion query, instead of just the last word. We now added
"space" as a completion query character without it being a word
character.

For keymap.json, this improves selecting part of an action as the ":"
character is only a completion character and not a word character. So,
completions would still trigger on ":" and query capture will treat ":"
as a word, but for actions like selections and navigation, ":" will be
treated as punctuation.

Before:
Unnecessary related suggestions as query is only the last word which is
"d".

Refine word completions (#26779)
Follow-up of https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/pull/26410

* Extract word completions into their own, `editor::ShowWordCompletions`
action so those could be triggered independently of completions
* Assign `ctrl-shift-space` binding to this new action
* Still keep words returned along the completions as in the original PR,
but:
* Tone down regular completions' fallback logic, skip words when the
language server responds with empty list of completions, but keep on
adding words if nothing or an error were returned instead
    * Adjust the defaults to wait for LSP completions infinitely
* Skip "words" with digits such as `0_usize` or `2.f32` from completion
items, unless a completion query has digits in it

assistant edit tool: Use buffer search and replace in background (#26679)
Instead of getting the whole text from the buffer, replacing with
`String::replace`, and getting a whole diff, we'll now use `SearchQuery`
to get a range, diff only that range, and apply it (all in the
background).

When we match zero strings, we'll record a "bad search", keep going and
report it to the model at the end.

Adds `"completions"` language settings section, to configure LSP and
word completions per language.
Word-based completions may be turned on never, always (returned along
with the LSP ones), and as a fallback if no LSP completion items were
returned.

Future work:

* words are matched with the same fuzzy matching code that the rest of
the completions are

This might worsen the completion menu's usability even more, and will
require work on better completion sorting.

* completion entries currently have no icons or other ways to indicate
those are coming from LSP or from word search, or from something else

* we may work with language scopes more intelligently, group words by
them and distinguish during completions
