editor: Fix Follow Agent unexpectedly stopping during edits (#35845)
Closes #34881

For horizontal scroll, we weren't keeping track of the `local` bool, so
whenever the agent tries to autoscroll horizontally, it would be seen as
a user scroll event resulting in unfollow.

- Fixed an issue where the Follow Agent could unexpectedly stop
following during edits.

Reduce number of snapshots and notifies during editor scrolling (#34228)
We not do not create new snapshots anymore when autoscrolling
horizontally and also do not notify any longer should the new scroll
position match the old one.

vim: Fix and improve horizontal scrolling (#33590)
This Pull Request introduces various changes to the editor's horizontal
scrolling, mostly focused on vim mode's horizontal scroll motions (`z
l`, `z h`, `z shift-l`, `z shift-h`). In order to make it easier to
review, the logical changes have been split into different sections.

## Cursor Position Update

Changes introduced on https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/pull/32558
added both `z l` and `z h` to vim mode but it only scrolled the editor's
content, without changing the cursor position. This doesn't reflect the
actual behavior of those motions in vim, so these two commits tackled
that, ensuring that the cursor position is updated, only when the cursor
is on the left or right edges of the editor:

## Horizontal Autoscroll Fix

After introducing the cursor position update to both `z l` and `z h` it
was noted that there was a bug with using `z l`, followed by `0` and
then `z l` again, as on the second use `z l` the cursor would not be
updated. This would only happen on the first line in the editor, and it
was concluded that it was because the
`editor:📜:autoscroll::Editor.autoscroll_horizontally` method was
directly updating the scroll manager's anchor offset, instead of using
the `editor:📜:Editor.set_scroll_position_internal` method, like
is being done by the vertical autoscroll
(`editor:📜:autoscroll::Editor.autoscroll_vertically`).

This wouldn't update the scroll manager's anchor, which would still
think it was at `(0, 1)` so the cursor position would not be updated.
The changes in [this
commit](3957f02e18)
updated the horizontal autoscrolling method to also leverage
`set_scroll_position_internal`.

## Visible Column Count & Page Width Scroll Amount

The changes in
d83652c3ae
add a `visible_column_count` field to `editor:📜:ScrollManager`
struct, which allowed the introduction of the `ScrollAmount::PageWidth`
enum.

With these changes, two new actions are introduced,
`vim::normal:📜:HalfPageRight` and
`vim::normal:📜:HalfPageLeft` (in
7f344304d5),
which move the editor half page to the right and half page to the left,
as well as the cursor position, which have also been mapped to `z
shift-l` and `z shift-h`, respectively.

Closes #17219 

Release Notes:

- Improved `z l` and `z h` to actually move the cursor position, similar
to vim's behavior
- Added `z shift-l` and `z shift-h` to scroll half of the page width's
to the right or to the left, respectively

Scroll to follow expanding part of editor::SelectLargerSyntaxNode (#27295)
When the selection grows both ways, the new code prioritizes the top
part instead of bottom one, this is usually more helpful considering
that most programming language grammars tend to define tokens right
before large delimited blocks, and rarely after (because humans and
parsers read from top to bottom).

Also, revert selection when convenient, so you have more control over
what you're selecting, looking at the selection `head` is commonly more
convenient than at the `tail`.

Rework edit prediction preview mode (#24700)
Don't animate the cursor when previewing jumps.
Instead, display the jump popover with a line that resembles a cursor,
indicating the jump destination. If the jump destination is outside of
the view port, there is an extra step in which `tab` scrolls the
viewport to reveal the jump destination.

Eliminate GPUI View, ViewContext, and WindowContext types (#22632)
There's still a bit more work to do on this, but this PR is compiling
(with warnings) after eliminating the key types. When the tasks below
are complete, this will be the new narrative for GPUI:

- `Entity<T>` - This replaces `View<T>`/`Model<T>`. It represents a unit
of state, and if `T` implements `Render`, then `Entity<T>` implements
`Element`.
- `&mut App` This replaces `AppContext` and represents the app.
- `&mut Context<T>` This replaces `ModelContext` and derefs to `App`. It
is provided by the framework when updating an entity.
- `&mut Window` Broken out of `&mut WindowContext` which no longer
exists. Every method that once took `&mut WindowContext` now takes `&mut
Window, &mut App` and every method that took `&mut ViewContext<T>` now
takes `&mut Window, &mut Context<T>`

Not pictured here are the two other failed attempts. It's been quite a
month!

Fix jank in LSP debug log autoscroll (#22998)
Not sure why scroll was janky with `Autoscroll::newest()`, but this
appears to fix it. Probably better to conditionally do the autoscroll
requests anyway.

Fix vertical_scroll_margin not being capped for large vertical_scroll_margin values (#15473)
When switching to function definitions in a new buffer the
`AutoscrollStrategy::Focused` being emitted to scroll to the found
location.
If a large value `vertical_scroll_margin` (e.g.: 99) is set, this leads
to an incorrectly calculated position and the new buffer opens in the
wrong place.

In `autoscroll_vertically()` there is a margin calculated to cap the
value of `vertical_scroll_margin` for certain AutoscrollStrategies. This
margin is being used in `AutoscrollStrategy::Fit` and
`AutoscrollStrategy::Newest` but was probably forgotten for
`AutoscrollStrategy::Focused`.

Introduce custom fold placeholders (#12214)
This pull request replaces the static `⋯` character we used to insert
when folding a range with a custom render function that return an
`AnyElement`. We plan to use this in the assistant, but for now this
should be behavior-preserving.

Make autoscroll optional when highlighting editor rows (#11950)
Previously, when highlighting editor rows with a color, we always
auto-scrolled to the first highlighted row. This was useful in contexts
like go-to-line and the outline view. We had an explicit special case
for git diff highlights. Now, part of the `highlight_rows` API, you
specify whether or not you want the autoscroll behavior. This is needed
because we want to highlight rows in the assistant panel, and we don't
want the autoscroll.

use different types for each.

Added two new actions with the default keybindings

Introduce autoscroll support for elements (#10889)
This pull request introduces the new
`ElementContext::request_autoscroll(bounds)` and
`ElementContext::take_autoscroll()` methods in GPUI. These new APIs
enable container elements such as `List` to change their scroll position
if one of their children requested an autoscroll. We plan to use this in
the revamped assistant.

As a drive-by, we also:

- Renamed `Element::before_layout` to `Element::request_layout`
- Renamed `Element::after_layout` to `Element::prepaint`
- Introduced a new `List::splice_focusable` method to splice focusable
elements into the list, which enables rendering offscreen elements that
are focused.

Make BufferSearch less wide (#10459)
This also adds some "responsiveness" so that UI elements are hidden
before everything has to be occluded

Release Notes:

- Improved search UI. It now works in narrower panes, and avoids
scrolling the editor on open.

editor: Preserve scroll position when jumping from multibuffer (#9921)
This is a best-effort attempt, as the target offset from the top is just
an estimate; furthermore, this does not account for things like project
search header (which adds a bit of vertical offset by itself and is
removed once we jump into a buffer), but it still should improve the
situation quite a bit.

Fixes: #5296

Release Notes:

- Improved target selection when jumping from multibuffer; final
position in the buffer should more closely match the original position
of the cursor in the multibuffer.
